Miracle in Cell No. 7 is one of the most successful South Korean movies of all time. And as written in the title, it is miraculous.
STORY
Rating - 9/10
The movie is about a father with mental disability, who was charged with a crime, he had not committed. His everything is his daughter who always believes in her father.
This film is about father-daughter relationship, about friendship and it shows us that injustice happens.
The story is really moving, but there are also funny elements, which made the movie even better.
I loved the whole movie except for the trial scenes. As a law student, I just could not bear how ridiculous the scenes were. They always lost me there. It was way to emotional to be true. Due to those scenes, I had to deduct one point.
CAST/ACTING
Rating - 9.5/10
The cast was superb. I cannot express with my words how amazing the actors were.
Firstly, let me mention Kal So Won. This young actress was stellar. She is definitely one talented child actress. She was simply amazing!
Ryu Seung Ryong as the father deserves all the awards he has won. His acting was flawless. I totally believed that he is a mentally disabled person. The scenes with him and Kal So Won were amazing. I was crying whenever they parted. Both of them portrayed their characters really well.
Also the actors who portrayed the prisoners were great. Oh Dal Su, Park Won Sang, Jung Man Shik, Kim Jeong Tae and Kim Ki Cheon proved that they are senior actors and they never disappoint my expectations. Thanks to those actors, the movie can be rated as a comedy. I simply loved them!
Jeong Jin Young's role was the chief of the prison. His character needed more screen time as he is a top notch actor. There were bits of information about his life which were disclosed but they were practically useless for the story. They should have focused on it more or just not focus on it at all.
As for Park Shin Hye. Thanks to this movie, I confirmed that I am not a fan of hers. I don't like her acting. I didn't believe her character for a single moment. I am sorry, but she was supposed to be a lawyer. I know that she defended her father's case, but she was way too emotional for her to be a lawyer. I just could not take her seriously in the trial scenes. When she was acting as a lawyer, her acting was seriously not good. Also, I cannot see any diversity in her acting. She always plays the same types of characters. Therefore, I am glad that here, her role was not as big and Kal So Wo had more screen time.
MUSIC
Rating - 7/10
The music was okay, It fitted with the film very well and accompanied the scenes brilliantly.
OVERALL
Rating - 9/10
The film had a small budget so the story is quite simple. There is nothing eccentric and I like those types of movie. They are usually the best movies you can watch.
I cried several times while watching this film. It is a great movie with a message and it is definitely worth to watch.
